What's Growing On: June 2014

It's already June and the gardening season is in full swing. I love to garden and play in the dirt! My garden is really looking good. Some things are blooming, while others are getting their buds and are on the verge of blooming. Everyday it is fun to look outside and see the new flowers that have opened up. This year I am really enjoying my roses. Pretty soon there will be an explosion of color as the coneflowers and daisies pop open and the zinnias start blooming.

Come along on a garden tour and see what's growing on in my garden!

How is your garden looking? What are your favorite things to grow?

Our Trip to Dana Point

Recently, Mark and I went to Dana Point, California for a long weekend! Mark had a medical symposium at the Ritz Carlton at Dana Point. I was lucky enough to tag along for a mini vacation. We went to this conference last year, so we knew that the accommodations would be fabulous.

We arrived early Friday morning. By the time we got settled into our amazing room, the sun was shining! We took a walk around the Ritz Carlton property and explored. It is a gorgeous hotel with spectacular views of Dana Point Beach.

Mark had some time before the conference registration, so we went back to the room to put on our suits and wandered over to the pool. After a long morning of traveling we were hungry! We enjoyed some sushi poolside. Also, we couldn't resist getting into "vacation mode" with a couple of mango mojitos.

While Mark spent most of his time at the conference, I enjoyed time at the pool. It was nice to have a few cocktails and soak up the sun while leisurely reading magazines.

On Saturday night Mark and I went to the US Healthworks dinner. It was a fun evening and I got to meet a lot of Mark's colleagues.

After dinner, Mark and I spent some time in front of the fire on the patio. It was fun to sit by the fire, enjoy the view and talk. The sound of the waves crashing in the background made the setting even more perfect.

We stayed an extra day so that Mark could enjoy some vacation time as well. We started our day with a leisurely walk on the beach.

In the afternoon, we went to the pool to soak up some more sun and have some lunch. We even had a few cocktails! We were still in "vacation mode".

Every night we tried to see the sunset, but the marine layer rolled in and we couldn't see anything. But, on our last evening we were lucky enough to be able to watch the sunset. It was breathtaking.

We had the perfect day together. It was so relaxing, and Mark even got to enjoy some well deserved vacation time. But, like all things, it was time to say goodbye to Dana Point and the Ritz Carlton. On Tuesday morning we headed back to the airport and jumped on the plane back to Indy.

We came back home renewed and restored! A little time away in sunny California was just the thing we needed. Mark learned a lot at his conference, and we were able to make it into a mini vacation. I will say, the service at the Ritz was superior. The hotel provides you with a friendly, luxury experience. I highly recommend the Ritz Carlton at Dana Point if you ever have the opportunity to visit that area.

We had a wonderful trip, but home is home. It is always nice to come back to our little corner of the world.

Packing for a Warm Weather Vacation

Recently, Mark and I went to Dana Point, California. We had a wonderful time on our trip! But, like any trip, there was preparation and packing to be done before leaving.

When I am getting ready to go on a trip, I always use checklists and packing lists. I find that they make the preparation and packing a lot easier and more efficient. I know these lists are helpful to me, so I wanted to share them with you. Hopefully they will make packing and preparing for a trip easier for you too.

These packing lists are specific to a short, warm weather vacation. (For longer trips I use different packing and preparation lists.)

General Packing List
Women's Packing List
Men's Packing List

In addition to the packing lists, I use two checklists to help me prepare before leaving the house.

The Night Before You Leave Checklist
Before You Walk Out The Door Checklist

I hope you find these checklists helpful!
